Day 1
Descend South Kaibab Trail 7.6 miles to Bright Angel Campground at historic Phantom Ranch. We will camp beside beautiful Bright Angel Creek.
Day 2
We will Hike the North Rim's counterpart to the Tonto Trail, the Clear Creek Trail, 9.2 miles to Clear Creek, a spring-fed perennial stream that works its way 8.4 miles to the Colorado River. Along the way our trail hugs the rim of Granite Gorge and we will catch tremendous views, including the twin bridges spanning the Colorado River. At Clear Creek we will establish a campsite in the canyon's dark-walled gorge, in the shade of cottonwoods.
Day 3
We will hike 8 miles round trip, up Clear Creek to towering Cheyava Falls, fed by snowmelt. If Cheyava Falls has not been recharged from a good meltdown of snow, we will do a 10 mile round trip hike, wade and boulder hop down Clear Creek to the Colorado River. This route follows the serpentine gorge through one of the most spectacular stretches of Vishnu narrows in the Grand Canyon.
Day 4
We retrace our footsteps back to Bright Angel Campground and enjoy a refreshment at Phantom Ranch.
Day 5
Ascend the Bright Angel Trail 10.6 miles to the rim, stopping for a break at Indian Gardens.
