Day 1
Meet at Bright Angel Lodge or Yaki Point on the South Rim and start our 7.6 mile to our first camp along the Colorado River and Bright Angel Creek. We will stop for views at Cedar Ridge and Skeleton Point. At Skeleton Point we will be able to see the mighty Colorado River and Phantom Ranch nestled in the tall spreading Freemont Cottonwoods. We will continue to follow switchbacks to a 50 yard yard tunnel before crossing the solid walkway of Black Bridge, 78 feet above the Colorado River to the River Trail and Bright Angel Campground.
Day 2
Today, we begin our 5.0-mile hike up to Indian Gardens on the Bright Angel Trail where the Havasupai tribe once lived. We will pass over the Silver Bridge spanning the Colorado River and work our way up the Devil's Corkscrew to lush Indian Gardens. We will catch a brilliant sunset at Plateau Point in the late afternoon.
Day 3
We will ascend the final 4.6 miles to rim, stopping at 3 mile and 1 1/2 mile rest stops. This part of the trail may be a good opportunity to catch a sighting of the California Condor soaring above.
Day 4 (optional)
A fourth day may be added at Bright Angel Campground with optional hikes on the North Rim, including Ribbon Falls.
